Your List is a Treasure Map
John “success leaves clues” reached the top level and became a member of the millionaire circle in the first network marketing company he joined and was featured in the book “Your First Year in Network Marketing” by Mark and Renee Yarnell.
Thank you John for being on the Ethos Saturday morning training call and for sharing the following with us. You can listen to the call and follow along with the notes below by dialing 1-605-475-6950 access code: 101122# Recording number 11#
[This call also features, Star Executive Director Doug Allen from Texas, Joost Wouters from SPAIN, and Two Star Executive Director Sherry Kerdman from California.]
John writes: Your contact list is the most vital tool you can use to build your business. The list is the fuel for your business. Do you want to start this journey with an empty tank or a full tank?
Out of every random list of 100 people, there may be two or three superstars (the kind who will run hard and build a multi-million dollar business with your help) just waiting for you to discover and develop them. And there could be 20 or 30 more people who will do the business on a lesser level, and many more who are potential clients. When you have plenty of people to talk to, you aren’t desperate to sponsor each and every one. People sense when you need them. And that neediness can turn them off and make them react negatively towards your offer.
When you have a lot of people to talk to about your business, you have more confidence and more posture. You gain control over your business and your future. Knowing that your success doesn’t rest with just one, two, or a dozen people gives you an incredible edge. When you have an abundance of people to share your business with, you’ll have incredible posture with people, knowing you don’t need them; THEY NEED YOU!
“But I don’t know anyone.”
Did you know that by age 25, you probably know more than 2,000 people on a first name basis? It’s unlikely you ever bothered to count them, but this is your circle of influence. If you knew that every name you wrote down would be worth $1,000 a year to you for the rest of your life, how many names could you come up with? Now do you feel like you know more people?
As you are building your list, remember not to prejudge anyone. It’s natural to feel like you have to know beforehand if everyone you write on your list will be interested in what you have to offer. Often, in the beginning, you may feel that people will think less of you if you approach them. Yet, in reality, you are offering an incredible gift when you offer your opportunity to others. You are offering them something that is in their best interest. GET EXCITED! You’re about to change your life and the lives of people you care about.
CATEGORIES: HOW OUR BRAINS STORE INFORMATION
The first step is to understand the process of creating “leads” or contacts. The key to creating contacts is referrals. Sometimes called “referral marketing” in other industries, capturing new business prospects and clients through referrals is at the heart of networking. We all share information we are excited about with our friends and family every day. The process starts with you contacting your initial base of friends, family, colleagues, and acquaintances.
You already have a huge base to start from: as many as 2,000 names. Right now, you may think you can’t possibly know that many people. However, as you follow the “Category Reminder Method,” you will be amazed to see how many names you actually come up with. Take a spiral notebook or composition book and instead of writing names, begin by writing down categories or communities of people you know, leaving at least an entire page for each category.
Category Reminder Method
Here are some starter categories we suggest to use as resources for finding people:
Family (genealogy, reunions)
High School (class reunions, directories)
College (alumni directory, frat/sorority, sports, clubs)
Past Work (How many jobs have you had?)
Current Work
Wedding List
Cell Phone Directory
Neighborhood (Home Owners Association)
Clubs/Organization (PTA, Rotary)
Sports
Church
Professional Associations
Location (Who do you know in NY, LA, Dallas, etc.)
Vocation (Who do you know is a doctor, lawyer, dentist, etc.)
As you fill out this list, it is possible to average at least 50 names a category. For example, your alumni directory likely includes 10,000 names, your Home Owners Association probably has hundreds of names, and your extended family will easily branch into more hundreds of names. Don’t forget to include the extended family of each person on your family list, and their extended family, and so on.
Once your own list includes, for example, 500 names, realize that each of those people have numerous contacts of their own. This is how you develop a network. By following this Category Reminder Method, you can easily create a list with as many as 2,000 names. Creating this list is a critical component to growing your business. As you master the Category Reminder Method, you can also continue to add names to your list throughout the life of your business. Keep your list near you at all times: you’ll remember names out of nowhere, and wonder how you ever forgot them!
When you have accumulated a huge list, start prioritizing the names. Narrow the list to your top 100 names, then to the top 25 of those. You want to identify your top prospects and contact them first. Don’t be tempted to eliminate or pre-qualify anyone from your list before you contact them. You never know who will be interested in the business.
ACTION STEP: WITHIN 48 HOURS OF READING THIS, CREATE A LIST OF 100 PROSPECTS.
Finally, begin contacting your list. Be prepared with a system for tracking who you called and the responses you receive. Work with your upline to develop scripts and even conference call on the first few calls as you learn the best way to share the business with others.
——————————————————————————–
The last thing I’ll leave you with is a reminder that besides everyone needing our product, you never want a personal contact to say to you, “Why didn’t you ever tell me about the For Earth Ethos business?”
Happy Hunting!

Success Leaves Clues
Joost Wouters lives in Spain and is part of Steve Rangel and Mark Grijalva’s team. He has a degree in mechanical engineering. Before starting his own business over 6 years ago, he led sales teams for two major corporations, Proctor and Gamble, and a division of PepsiCo. As a savvy successful entrepreneur Joost instantly recognized the magnitude of the ETHOS opportunity, he jumped in, and immediately personally sponsored 9 distributors!
In Joost’s traditional business he helped companies, and teams within companies, set specific goals, and then develop and execute a strategy to achieve those goals. As a result of his background he is a keen observer and has been analyzing each step of the For Earth duplication process. After each call that we do together the observations that Joost has to share are always very interesting and thought provoking.
Joost was one of our special guest speakers this morning on our For Earth Saturday training call. New distributors and experienced distributors alike will benefit from listening to Joost and the other guest speakers. Special thanks to Joost, Star Executive Director Doug Allen and Joe Scraggs, both of Texas and Senior Director John “Success leaves clues” Cini who also has roots in Texas and who now lives in Virginia. You can listen to a recording of the call by dialing: 1-605-475-6950 access code: 101122# recording number 11152#
A listing of the live conference calls may be found at http://www.ethospresentation.net/conferencecalls
In addition I am including a copy of a note that Joost found helpful and that he has been sharing with his team.
Joost writes: Some weeks ago I had to deal with someone who decided to quit our team, because of the purchase of the G1 product package (maybe that was not the real reason, but anyway, that’s what he said). I asked Marie Bennett for advise. What she wrote makes perfect sense to me and I think it is very worthwhile for us all. It is like a white paper on how to build a successful network organization.
Please read carefully what she says. Maybe read it twice or three times. And save the message somewhere, because I think this can help you in the future as well, when you run into the same situation.
and come to the conclusion that the corporations and government accounts that have provided their test results know what they are doing. Entrepreneurs also recognize the unique timing that we have, the opportunity to be an early innovator and they jump in – the same way that you did – and get started!
The Ethos 5-Point Presentation
As you build your Ethos business you will notice that your support team consciously or unconsciously covers 5 points while presenting on your behalf. Online presentations, websites, conference calls, three ways, PowerPoint Presentations and the Ethos opportunity brochure are built on the same simple, yet very effective 5 points.
1. Market trends x 3 – fuel prices, environment, economy
2. Product – proven, endorsed, necessary, unique, consumable
3. Company – management team, production capabilities, prepared for growth
4. Leverage – exponential growth = ongoing income
5. Timing – early innovator advantage = pre-momentum
As you interview a potential distributor to determine if they are the correct match for your business, the right prospect will often do what I call connecting the dots for themselves. In other words, they may say things along the line of, “Wow, you’re right with a product like that, at this time in history, with everyone concerned about their expenses and the environment, [AKA market trends], of course there is going to be money made!”
I just got off the phone with Gertrude and Carlen in Northern California and Rene who is a nephew of Rex, one of their distributors. Rene who lives in the Philippines told us his mind is racing! As we wrapped up the call he said “Even your new president is pushing for what this product does.” In other words Rene is connecting the dots.
The order in which each point is discussed may vary. For example during a three way call you might want to double check that the prospective distributor has a good basic understanding of how network marketing works before you discuss any other details, but having a handle on the basic 5 points creates the confidence to go with the flow of each recruiting conversation.
Once you master the points you will be able to present the business in 5 minutes, or spend 5 minutes per point. When you get to the point where you can use your fingers, or quickly scribble out the 5 points on a napkin and do a presentation on the fly on behalf of your distributors – you will be unstoppable!
Grab a guest, create a 5-point check list and follow along during the next live conference call – listen and learn while you build and earn.

The Not So Obvious Reason Why…
Seventeen years ago I received excellent advice from a gentleman who has today made 10′s of millions of dollars in network marketing. That advice still holds true…
“Become proficient at inviting your contacts to look at the business and then allow your upline to show them the business on your behalf”.
One of the major benefits of network marketing is the fact that you are “in business for yourself but not by yourself”.
There are many reasons to utilize conference calls, recorded messages, webinars, and your upline support team.
The first reasons are generally fairly obvious. Utilizing the tools available, including your support team means that you do not have to be an expert before you jump in and start recruiting and building a business, you can start making money while you are learning, you can earn as you learn!
As a new distributor it is a given that you may not have all the answers to all the questions that the first people you contact will have. You only have one chance to make that first impression so it’s important to have a team member standing by to answer the questions that your potential distributors have.
Even if you are an experienced business person, or you are a top sales producer, or you have built other businesses without help from anyone else, this part of the “system” is important to follow.
It is so important that one of the first things experienced, successful networkers ask, when they are evaluating a company, or a team within the company, is… “Who is the upline? Who is going to be available to help me?”
Experienced networkers realize that if they can show their prospective distributors that there is help available, their prospects are going to be far more likely to join them. When prospects experience firsthand the help that is available they are far less intimidated, when they experience how they are going to have help every step of the way, they realize that they don’t have to know it all to get started.
In other words YOU have become DUPLICABLE, which is one of the major keys to success in network marketing.
What questions or suggestions do you have about using your upline most effectively?

Principles of Exponential Growth
When you are recruiting, do you mumble the fact that Ethos is a network marketing company and then hope that your prospective distributor does not run away?
Teachers often do well in this industry because one of the keys to success in network marketing is having a solid understanding of how exponential growth works and in turn being able to explain that concept to prospective distributors so that they can make an educated business decision. With a little education and practice you can learn to welcome objections and to embrace the fact that this is network marketing!
As conversations evolve through recruiting, and three way calls with prospective distributors I have a favorite question…
“If you had to — how would you explain how the money is made in a network marketing company?” Then I shut up and listen. There are people who have been in multiple network marketing companies who can’t answer that question, who don’t really “get it”.
Many people understand the opportunity to buy products at wholesale and sell at retail. They might mumble something about “word of mouth” or “word of mouse” but after that they are kind of fuzzy as to the details about how the BIG bucks are made.
As you become proficient at explaining how exponential growth works you will see the expressions on people’s faces change, you will see a light bulb go off and you will hear people on the phone say “Oh, now I get it!”
