When you are recruiting, do you mumble the fact that you are involved in  a network marketing company and then hope that your prospective distributor does not run away?

In 1991 Anson came home and told me that he enrolled us in a network marketing company.  I put the sign of the cross in front of my body and said “Over my dead body!”.  You see I did not understand the basic principals of network marketing.

It wasn’t until a simple 5 x 5 chart was left lying on my coffee table that I internalized that products and services move in massive amounts by a lot of people each being users and sharing their experiences with a few each.  It wasn’t until I saw the power of “exponential growth” that a light bulb went off for me.

As conversations evolve through recruiting, and three way calls with prospective distributors I often ask a favorite question…

“If you had to — how would you explain how the money is made in a network marketing company?” Then I shut up and listen. There are people who have been in multiple network marketing companies who can’t answer that question, who don’t really “get it”.

Many people understand the opportunity to buy products at wholesale and sell at retail. They might mumble something about “word of mouth” but after that they are kind of fuzzy as to the details about how the really BIG bucks are made in the industry.

As you become proficient at explaining how exponential growth works you will see the expressions on people’s faces change, you will see a light bulb go off and you will hear people on the phone say “Oh, now I get it!”

Teachers often do well in this industry because one of the keys to success in network marketing is having a solid understanding of how exponential growth works, and in turn being able to explain that concept to prospective distributors so that they can make an informed business decision. With a little education and practice you can learn to welcome objections and to embrace the fact that this is network marketing!
